The Tenara thread was originally developed to be used on fabrics which have much exposure to UV and extreme temperatures. The fiber is essentially PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene), better known as Teflon. This thread, like all other materials used in the framing industry will have its place, but is not suitable for all items. It offers significant advantages over most of the other threads being used today in that it is very strong, totally resistant to deterioration due to UV or extreme temp., and will not rot or mildew. After 3 years in the desert sun this thread still had 100% break strength, where polyester and nylon thread had only 15-30%. Tenara is virtually unbreakable with the human hand and can hold a moderate amount of weight with little or no effect.
